New Seasonal Beer On Tap!

Here at The Brewhouse St. Louis, a Historical Sports Bar located downtown at 315 Chestnut Street, we are proud to offer two new seasonal beers on tap. The first is Schlafly Helles-Style Summer Lager from our local craft brewers, and is brewed in the Munich Helles style. When the golden and clean lagers of Plzen (Bohemia) became all the rage in the mid-1800's, Munich brewers feared that Germans would start drinking the Czech beer vs. their own. Munich Helles Lager was their answer to met the demand. A bit more malty, they often share the spicy hop characters of Czech Pils, but are a bit more subdued and in balance with malts. "Helles" is German for "bright". This beer is golden and medium-bodied, it has a fresh noble hop character and lightly toasted malt flavor. The second is the Abbey Ale from Cathedral Square Brewery. This beer is from the newest Craft-Brewer in St. Louis, who specialize in Belgian beer styles. The Abbey Ale is made in the "Dubbel" style, which is a style made famous by the Trappist monasteries in Belgium and the Netherlands. This beer is a dark, rich, malty beer with mild hop flavors and a medium to full body.

Beer Cocktails

The unofficial definition of the Shandy is beer flavored with ginger ale, ginger beer, lemonade or other soft drinks. The proportions of the two ingredients are adjusted to taste, normally half-and-half, although shandy that is sold canned or bottled is typically much weaker. The drink was formerly known in Britain as "shandygaff", in Germany as "radler" and in France, a "panache". The Brewhouse Shandy pairs Schlafly Pale ale with Barritt's Ginger Beer and fresh squeezed lemon. Ginger beer is similar to ginger ale, though it has a significantly stronger ginger taste, often being described as ginger ale with a kick to it, and is the perfect ingredient to the refreshing Brewhouse Shandy.
